Guero

introduction type thing

Beck’s new album entitled Guero, a word that is Mexican slang for a blond-haired, fair-skinned Caucasian, was supposedly going to come out last October. And then it got pushed back. And then it got pushed back some more. And then an unmixed, unmastered version of the album was “unceremoniously” leaked in January. And then someone (maybe) said, “Okay, let’s just get this thing out before people riot and throw angry squirrels at us.” So it’s coming out in March.

On his new album, Beck worked with producers The Dust Brothers, (Mike Simpson and John King) and Tony Hoffer. Jack White also recorded a track with Beck.

The songs on Guero (Beck’s ninth LP or sixth major-label LP) are more in the vein of Odelay than Beck’s previous release, Sea Change. Of course, if you’ve been listening to Beck for a while you know his albums tend to shift in style. Guero = dancey fun guitar rapping kind of stuff (yes, that’s my best description).

Re: the leak: There were a bunch of tracks online but they probably aren't there anymore. The leak seemed to start from the nappy cat and then some tracks were made available at one louder and aeki tuesday. As armcicles.com says, "wait for the friggin' album to come out" (at one point armcircles had the whole album, then a few tracks, and now...well, you can wait). Beck.com said this about the leak:

Speaking of, as some of you may have seen, the new Beck album, tentatively due out March 28th, has unceremoniously been leaked onto the masses. This is NOT the final album. It is an early unmixed, unmastered version that is neither the final sequence or all the tracks that will appear, so please be aware this is not what Beck intended to happen or bestow onto his fans.
